The DGCH Organ Donation Run is an annual initiative by the German Society of Surgery (DGCH), held as part of the DCK Congress, which took place this year from March 26 to 28, 2025. Yesterday, on March 27, the in-person run brought together participants dedicated to raising awareness about organ donation and transplantation.

Despite the fact that 84% of the German population supports organ donation, only 36% hold an organ donor card. This gap means that around 9,000 patients in Germany wait in vain for a life-saving organ each year, and up to three people die daily while on the waiting list. Events like the DGCH Organ Donation Run play a crucial role in shedding light on this issue.

One of the standout participants was TX Teddy, the official mascot of the World Transplant Games 2025, who took part in the run, spreading the message of organ transplantation and inspiring fellow runners. His presence helped highlight the importance of raising awareness and educating the public on this life-saving topic.

We also want to extend our warmest congratulations to all runners who participated and supported this meaningful cause. A special mention goes to our WTG 2025 ambassadors, Bera and Robert, who successfully completed the run and contributed to the mission of organ donation awareness.

For those who couldn’t join in person, the DGCH Organ Donation Run remains open for virtual participation until Sunday, March 30. This means there’s still time to take part from anywhere in the world and make a difference!
