Up to 120,000 organ donor cards will be distributed to households in the Dresden administrative district, the circulation area of the Sächsische Zeitung, over the coming weeks. Today, SZ circulated 100,000 copies. Another 20,000 will follow in the coming weeks. This made the World Transplant Games in Dresden, together with their partners, the largest single distribution campaign in Germany to date.

Dr. Eberhard Schollmeyer, Vice Chairman of TransDia Sport Deutschland e.V. (Host), emphasized: “The World Transplant Games have put the issue of organ donation back at the very top of the agenda. With the campaign by the Sächsische Zeitung to distribute 120,000 organ donor cards with the print edition, it becomes something very tangible here in the city.”

Carsten Dietmann, Managing Director of DDV Mediengruppe GmbH & Co. KG, added: “As a media company rooted in the region, we bear responsibility for socially relevant issues. Organ donation is one of them: it affects us all, regardless of age, origin, or life situation. With this campaign, we want to help raise awareness, break down prejudices, and encourage people to deal with their own decision regarding organ donation.”

The distribution was supported by the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG).
