Grand Reopening of Heinz-Steyer-Stadium

Heinz-Steyer-Stadium
We are thrilled to announce the grand reopening of the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in Dresden, which took place on August 30, 2024, after a significant renovation. The stadium’s first event, the "Golden Oval," a premier track and field competition, marked the beginning of a new era for this iconic sports venue. The Heinz-Steyer-Stadion is also part of the WTG2025.

Nestled in the heart of the Sportpark Ostra, just a few hundred meters from Dresden’s historic old town, the new Heinz-Steyer-Stadium is now a state-of-the-art, multifunctional sports facility. With a seating capacity of 5,000 covered seats, which can be expanded to accommodate 15,000 spectators with mobile stands, the stadium is set to become a hub for top-tier Track and Field, football, and American football.

The stadium will be home to elite Track and Field events, the football teams of Dresdner SC, and the American football team Dresden Monarchs. But that’s not all – the multifunctional south stand houses squash courts, a fencing hall, and various club facilities, making it a vibrant center for sports and community activities.

A notable feature of the new stadium is the photovoltaic system installed on its roof, contributing to the goal of making the Sports Park Ostra CO2-neutral. This forward-thinking initiative highlights Dresden’s commitment to sustainability in sports.

Construction of the revamped Heinz-Steyer-Stadium began in October 2021, and we are proud to see it now stand as a modern symbol of Dresden’s sporting excellence.

We are also excited to announce that the stadium will host the Track and Field events of the World Transplant Games 2025 on August 22 and 23, 2025. As the cutting-edge centerpiece of the WTG 2025, the Heinz-Steyer-Stadium will welcome athletes from around the world in a celebration of sportsmanship and resilience.
