Since when have you become an organ donor?
I donated a kidney to my daughter Alexandra Funk on 11/08/2015.
Which organ was donated?
I donated a kidney.
Why was the transplant necessary, and what has it enabled the recipient to do?
The transplant was necessary due to chronic kidney insufficiency caused by glomerulonephritis. The donation has allowed my daughter to lead a normal life again.
How was the time for you just before and after the transplant?
Immediately after the transplant, I was somewhat restricted, but after a joint rehabilitation with my daughter, almost everything was possible again. After about three months, there were no more restrictions.
What role does sport play in your life?
Sport has always played an important role in my life. I engage in jazz dance, Pilates, jogging, and swimming in the summer.
What have you already achieved in sports?
At the World Transplant Games in Perth, I won the gold medal in the 5 km road race in the over-50 age category for organ donors.
What do you associate with the World Transplant Games, and why are you excited about WTG2025 in Dresden?
I look forward to meeting a large community of transplant recipients and some of their donors from around the world. I am particularly excited that the games will be held in Germany.
In which competitions will you likely compete in Dresden?
I plan to compete in the 5 km road race.
