Statement on the potential halt of the Opt-Out Solution in Germany

Dresden, November 11 – With the current German government on the brink of dissolution, there is now a significant risk that the Federal Council initiative for an opt-out solution in organ donation could fail. This development is particularly concerning as it occurs in the year when the World Transplant Games will be held in Germany for the first time (August 17-24, 2025, in Dresden).

Dresden, 23 October – With around 300 days to go until the World Transplant Games in Dresden, the countdown is officially on! From August 17 to 24, 2025, thousands of athletes will travel to the capital of Saxony to participate in the world’s largest sporting event for transplant recipients and living donors. The organizer, World Transplant Games 2025 Dresden GmbH, has already secured the support of more than 20 clubs and associations from Dresden and its surrounding region for this major event. Volunteers will also have the unique opportunity to be part of this extraordinary sporting event.
