To ensure participants can deliver their best performances, the sports venues will provide optimal conditions. Let’s take a closer look at the eleven locations hosting the 17 sports disciplines.
Heinz-Steyer-Stadium – the heart of the venues
No other sports venue represents the World Transplant Games in Dresden like the Heinz-Steyer-Stadium. As the largest venue of the WTG 2025, it features a tartan track, has undergone extensive modernization, and was officially reopened on August 30, 2024, after about two years of construction. The stadium now offers 10,000 seats, about 5,400 of which are covered. With mobile grandstands in the curved areas, the capacity can temporarily increase to 15,000 seats. The Heinz-Steyer-Stadium will play a central role in the World Transplant Games, hosting competitions in track and field as well as squash. A special sustainability feature: a 2,000-square-meter photovoltaic system installed on the grandstand roofs contributes to the stadium’s climate-friendly energy supply.
Diving in – at the Swimming Facility Freiberger Platz
The Swimming Facility Freiberger Platz is the largest facility for swimming and diving in Dresden and one of the most modern of its kind in Germany. The diving hall was completed in 1964, followed by the first swimming hall in 1969. In 2016, the complex was expanded with a second swimming hall featuring a modern 50-meter stainless steel pool. During the WTG, transplant swimmers will compete for the fastest times. Visitors can cheer them on from the grandstands.
Sportpark Ostra – many venues, many possibilities
Not far from the Heinz-Steyer-Stadium and the JOYNEXT Arena, the Sportpark Ostra offers numerous sports fields and courts. Spanning 90 hectares, it is a central hub for sports and leisure activities, providing diverse opportunities for both recreational and professional sports. Several track and field events, as well as football and archery, will take place here.
What other venues are there?
That’s not all. The World Transplant Games will showcase even more sports venues. For example, table tennis, badminton, and volleyball will take place in the JOYNEXT Arena, near the Heinz-Steyer-Stadium. Just a few steps away, basketball players will battle for points in the BallsportARENA. Dresden also offers excellent options for outdoor sports, such as the Golf Course Dresden on the city’s outskirts, the Pétanque Field Bodenbacher Straße, and the Tennis Facility Waldpark. Additional venues will be announced, but the confirmed locations already promise excellent conditions for the World Transplant Games.
